It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to our Annual Investor Day and General Meeting for the Summit Private Equity Fund I. We are honoured by your presence and excited for the days ahead, which will offer a deep dive into the Fund’s investments and how they reflect Summit’s mission of Investing-for-Impact. We see our Partnership with you as key to driving growth with impact within key sectors of the economy, and we are grateful for your continued trust and collaboration.
We begin with a visit to the newly opened Crestcare Malmesbury Hospital. This state-of-the-art acute facility will deliver much needed healthcare services in Malmesbury and the broader Swaartland region. Your firsthand experience of this community-centric hospital will demonstrate the tangible impact of the investments the Fund has made in the healthcare sector and the importance of leveraging Partnerships to achieve sustainable growth/returns while enhancing community well-being.
Day two will feature a series of presentations and dynamic panel discussions. Experts from the Fund’s portfolio companies will share industry and company-specific insights and address any questions you may have. These interactive sessions will help you gain a clearer understanding of the Fund’s portfolio companies, their strategic positioning and the strategies driving their success and future potential.
The past year has highlighted the importance of careful sector selection in private equity. Notwithstanding the benign socio-economic environment that has prevailed, the portfolio has remained resilient and continued to address the persistent undersupply that exists in our target sectors.
The expansion of Crestcare Zoutpansberg, completed in December 2023, has more than doubled its capacity, bringing critical medical services closer to those who need them most. The investment in Custom Capital Finance has empowered over 2,500 SMMEs, fostering economic growth and innovation. Through Newbridge Graduate Institute, hundreds of previously disadvantaged students have been able to access quality education, while the opening of the Life Path Health’s St Catherine Mental Health Hospital has addressed a critical need in South Africa’s healthcare landscape. We are also proud to have successfully concluded a significant liquidity event for the Fund, returning just under R1 billion to fund investors over the last 12 months. Moreover, we were recognised as the 2023 Best ESG Fund of the Year at the SuperReturns Africa GP Awards! These milestones are not just wins for us but also reflect the fruits of our partnership with you, and the trust you have placed in us. As we look ahead, our focus remains firmly on continuing to create impactful and sustainable value. We look forward to spending time with you over the next two days, and to deepening Partnerships that enable us to realise our shared objectives for above-market financial returns and tangible and sustainable social impact in key sectors of the economy.
